MONTGOMERY, AL- The Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE) is releasing its 2011-2012 annual report, outlining the agency's work for the fiscal year on the State Plan for Higher Education and other education initiatives.
Among ACHE's responsibilities are the administration of various student financial aid programs, the approval of new academic programs and off-campus instruction and the coordination of the Consolidated Budget Recommendation that is sent to the Governor and the Legislature.
"Financial support for Alabama's public colleges and universities remains a critical concern for the Commission," said ACHE Executive Director Gregory Fitch. "We are monitoring revenue resources on an ongoing (monthly) basis.
"ACHE is statutorily charged to maintain the Alabama Statewide Student Database. We now have 7.8 million data units which are used to produce numerous reports for government, business/industry, and educational groups," said Fitch.
"The wide range of ACHE responsibilities outlined in this report reflect many ways that we will continue to use our resources in partnerships to prepare students for higher education and the workforce," said ACHE Chairman Jeff Coleman.
"We are committed to coordination, accessibility and affordability of higher education in Alabama. Student success is our major goal," added Fitch.
